Poetry at the Castle , 28th January 2012 to 3rd March 2012, 10:00 to 13:00 at Colchester Castle, Castle Park, Colchester (17.2 miles)
Two session course - Saturday 28th January and Saturday 3rd March
Taking inspiration from Roman objects and the surroundings, you can create a piece of poetry. The first session will look at how an object can ignite your imagination, as you look beyond it into the lives of people in the past. You can then write your poem and return as a group for the second session to ‘workshop’ your piece. These sessions will be facilitated by Sheena Clover of the Mosaic, Colchester’s Poetry Stanza Group.

Two talks -Ipswich Institute by Hugh Pierce and Arlington’s Poetry Café by Liz Ambler

Two for the price of one, concise presentations will explain the history of these establishments.
The Ipswich Institute is as progressive now as when it was founded in 1824. Today as a registered educational charity the Institute is open to all who choose to join. Members come with a great variety of backgrounds and interests and all find something worth joining for - whether it be the library itself, the numerous leisure learning courses on offer, the educational lectures and trips, or the café and restaurant facilities. Through a link with the Association of Independent Libraries members are able to visit similar establishments across the United Kingdom. The Institute also gives financial support to a variety of local educational projects.
Arlington’s is the site of the original Ipswich Museum, opened in 1846. It was home to the Ipswich Scientific Society then in 1881 the collection was moved to its present site in High Street. Now a brasserie it hosts Ipswich Cafe Poets, a lively mix of long time members and enthusiastic young poets and poetry lovers from Ipswich and surrounds.

3rd Chappel Winter Beer Festival, 24th February 2012 to 25th February 2012 at East Anglian Railway Museum, Station Road, Wakes Colne, Colchester (22.2 miles)
For the Third Year the Chappel Winter Beer Festival is back in February 2012. A smaller version of the main Summer Beer Festival, occupying just the Goods Shed, with a selection of about 60 beers to choose from.
This select event runs for two days, Friday & Saturday, with two sessions each day. Numbers are strictly limited, and admission is by pre-purchase ticket only. Late night trains now run on the Marks Tey to Sudbury line allowing you to get home after the event.

The discovery during World War Two of the Mildenhall Treasure was one of the most exciting and significant events of the 20th century. Ipswich Ladies Hockey Club
Ipswich Ladies Hockey Club is the only Premier National League club in Suffolk and we aim to cater for all standards of players.
